Sweet-Beans Soup
Zenzai (ぜんざい) is a thick sweet soup with boiled azuki beans as the featured ingredient. It is mainly eaten in winter.

Zenzai can differ between Kanto (Eastern Japan) and Kansai (Western Japan). The Kanto style uses tsubu-an (crunchy bean paste), which is less watery, and adds grilled mochi or shiratama (sweet mochi dumplings).
